Ben Cantelon: Saviour of the World

Last weekend on our Retreat, this song definitely stood out as the song of the weekend.

On the Retreat, we focused on the person who is at the very core of Christianity – Jesus, and the key events which made up his life and the lives of his first followers, the disciples. On the Saturday night, we spent the evening reflecting on Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and what it means for us.

When we played Saviour of the World, it really brought together everything we’d been thinking about and was the perfect song to sing together in order to worship and thank God for what he has done for us. It was so powerful, that we sang it twice!

You can get hold of a live version of Saviour of the World on the Worship Central album, Spirit Break Out or get a studio version on Ben Cantelon’s album Everything in Colour.

Here are the lyrics:

God so loved, that he gave his son
To lay down his life for the sake of us
He bore the weight of our sin and shame
With a cry he said, It is finished

Christ the Lord overcame the darkness
Hes alive: death has been defeated

For He made us a way
by which we have been saved
Hes the Saviour of the world
So we lift up a shout for his fame and renown
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Jesus, Saviour of the world

We must spread the word of His soon return
To reclaim the world for His glory
Let the church now sing of this coming King
Crowned with majesty, our Redeemer

And He reigns, ruler of the heavens
And His name is Jesus, the Messiah

Christ the Lord overcame the darkness
Hes alive: death has been defeated
And He reigns, ruler of the heavens
And His name is Jesus, the Messiah
