Partner Churches
We are very thankful to the local churches who have partnered with us in building up contacts and developing our work on the estate.
St Teilo’s Church (Church in Wales)
St Teilo’s Church and their vicar, Father Terry, have been incredibly supportive of the Lab. St Teilo’s is a congregation of faithful people who are strongly committed to their local community.
Bishpool Methodist Church
Bishpool Methodist Church, led by Anne Ellis, is just down the road from the two Lab houses, which is at the centre of the Bishpool community on the edge of Alway/Ringland. They have a long-running Children’s club and growing youth club which are attended by young people living in and on the edge of Alway.
St Paul’s City Centre Church (Church in Wales)
As well as providing a venue for our Sunday night meetings, St Paul’s has provided support for The Lab community from the very beginning. Justin, the vicar at St Paul’s, has oversight for The Lab on behalf of the Diocese of Monmouth.
Streetspace
Streetspace is an initiative of Frontier Youth Trust (FYT) in partnership with Church Mission Society. Their aim is to promote young people’s personal, social and spiritual development in line with the core youth work principles of Empowerment, Education, Participation, and Equality of Opportunity. Streetspace has a strong track record of helping get projects up and running, and are able to provide a good support and learning base. They are a growing community of practice with some of the most innovative missional youth workers in the UK involved.
The Lab project in Alway is a Streetspace Partnership Project.
Archbishop of Wales Fund for Children
The Archbishop of Wales Fund for Children was set up to support children in need and their families and local communities through making grants to organisations working throughout Wales. The money is raised throughout the Church in Wales from collections at special services and events.
The Lab has been well supported by the ABWFC over the last 3 years.
Hope Newport
For the last few years, The Lab has been involved in Hope. In Newport, Hope is led by a coalition of Christian youth workers and mobilises teams of volunteers from churches across Newport for three days each year of social action and serving local communities.
